I am so glad you are here to learn offensive and defensive plays we can use to play The Wellness game with our kids.  We all have the same goal through the fall and winter… seeing our kids THRIVE in school, sports, holidays and the things they love.  So let’s talk about how to make that happen and how to empower them to make these good choices for the rest of their lives.

POST #2 - Ditch the Suppressors

We are literally surrounded every single day by toxins that suppress our immune systems (among other horrible things) and we are fighting a losing battle if we don’t choose to play defense with the products that cross the threshold of our home.  Children are the most at risk from these everyday toxins so if you haven’t ditched and switched the stuff they are using yet… this is the perfect place and time to start!  Every single toxin you remove from their lives gives their bodies a break… and that means it can focus more on keeping them healthy instead of filtering through all the junk.  That’s powerful, right?!

  • Our KidScents line will totally take care of their personal care items like shampoo, body wash, lotion and toothpaste… and our Seedlings line is perfect for babies and infants. If you are currently using products that have the word “natural” or “organic” on the label… just know that those terms are not regulated by the FDA so don’t mean anything.  To make sure the products you use everyday are not toxic, you want to know where each ingredient is sourced and you need to have access to multiple third party tests that ensure their safety and purity.  Young Living is the only company in the world that offers that kind of promise!

  • A recent study from the EWG indicated that burning a candle for one hour in your home releases the same carcinogens as smoking one cigarette in your home.  Diffusers and room sprays are your answer to this dilemma and they will not only make your home smell amazing but they will actually clean the air and keep your whole family healthy.

  • Laundry detergent touches our largest organ 24/7 with clothes, sheets and towels.  Our Thieves Laundry Detergent gives you a safe upgrade!

  • Our kids wash their hands 2,146 times a day so our Thieves Foaming hand Soap gives you another opportunity to reduce their exposure to harmful toxins.  You can stretch it by using a 1:1 ratio of water to foaming hand soap refill and that makes them under $3 each!

  • Since our kids touch every surface in our home with their hands and feet, the Thieves Household Cleaner is an easy, safe and effective replacement for all of your cleaning supplies.  A $22.50 bottle of the concentrate makes THIRTY bottles of cleaner and gives your kids an immune system boost every time they touch it or breathe it in.

Replace one or two things a month and before you know it, your home will be mostly toxin free and your entire family will be feeling so much better!

POST #3 – Play Defense – Diet & Hydration

You can “out eat” any oil or supplement regimen with a poor diet. While what is on our kids’ plates is a totally personal decision, I don’t you wasting your efforts with the rest of what we share in this class. So let’s talk about the two biggest culprits that can stop our kids from thriving.

  • Sugar

  • Dyes

These two wreak havoc on their immune systems, growth patterns, brain development and behaviors.  If reducing sugar and dyes in your kids’ diet is a step you want to start taking, just be sure to read labels before things get into your grocery cart.  Sugar grams are easy to spot and dyes are typically near the end of an ingredient list.  Small changes add up to big results so consider doing easy swaps like whole grain pretzels instead Cheetos and Goldfish crackers… an apple instead of fruit gummies… or hot air popcorn instead of packaged cookies and chips.

Decide to spend more time talking to them about what they can eat and less time talking about what they can’t eat.  Remind them that this isn’t just a “house rule” situation… but that they have the power to make choices to help them grow strong and feel good. When they eat something that contains sugar and dye, ask them how it made them feel.  Remind them of those “yucky feelings” when they are faced with those choices again and you will begin to empower them towards health.

Most Americans live severally dehydrated and kids are no exception.  You can make drinking water fun for them with special cups and let them get it themselves out of the fridge door or a countertop filter.  Oils and supplements won’t work as well in a body that is dehydrated so this is another lifestyle option to make your efforts at keeping them in the game more effective!

Kids need sleep.  Lots of it… AMEN?!  So let’s talk about some things you can do to make the most of bedtime so they ease into dream land and don’t wake up until morning.

  • Try to reduce unnecessary clutter in their rooms.  Lots of stimulation as they are trying to fall asleep will make it harder for their brains to slow down.

  • Develop a routine and stick to it as often as you can!  When kids know what to expect, we can reduce the risk of bedtime drama.

  • Once they have their jammies on, encourage them to put a drop of Cedarwood on their big toes and on their chest.  They can drop Lavender on their favorite stuffed animal, pillow or blanket, too.  This sets the mood for bedtime and it is something they can do themselves!

  • Get their diffuser going!  Some suggestions are coming in Post #9 but our current favorite is Peace & Calming, Lavender and Cedarwood.

  • When they get into bed… huff some Valor and encourage them to stay there.  Once they know they aren’t going to get what they want… they will fall asleep and it’ll happen faster each night.

  • An extra tip if your child really struggles with falling asleep… stop their screen time an hour before bed time.  The lights from screens can really confuse our brains into thinking it is morning rather than night.  Switch them to a book, long bath or something quiet and calm like Lego building instead.  This really helped our son!

This is where being a Young Living member gets SO CRAZY exciting.  Our supplements are BOMB.  Not only are they made with the highest quality ingredients you will ever find anywhere… they also come with the assurance of twenty-five years of research, testimonies, testing and perfecting.  They are top notch and it feels so good to be able to relax and completely trust what comes in our ER Orders every month.  Here are our favorites.

  • NingXia Red – Our kids each drink an ounce of NingXia Red daily.  Once kids can have juice… they can drink this supplement.  If they don’t like the flavor, freeze it into popsicles, mix it with a little bit of organic apple juice or add it to an awesome smoothie.  Get it into them somehow!  😊  It’s packed full of antioxidants which eliminate cancer causing free radicals in our bodies and give our immune system full spectrum support.

  • Kid Scents Mighty Pro – If their gut isn’t healthy… they aren’t either.  These little packets of pre-biotics and pro-biotics taste like pixie sticks so you won’t have to battle them to get them down!

  • KidScents Mighty Vites – This is new to our routine and I feel great giving our kids all this goodness everyday.  It’s a whole food supplement so the full dosage is three chewables a day because they could not pack all that real stuff into just one.  (Don’t you just love that?!)  It was formulated without gmo-ingredients, sugar, dyes or artificial flavors.  To benefit from the same level of nutrients three chewables provide, they would have to eat the following everyday…

    • One cup of Broccoli to get the Folate

    • One Whole Avocado to get the Pantothenic Acid

    • Three ounces of Salmon to get the Vitamin B6

    • Four Eggs to get the Biotin

    • One cup of Black Beans to get the Thiamin

    • Four cups of Asparagus to get the Niacin

    • One cup of Spinach to get the Vitamin A

    • Three Bananas to get the Riboflavin

    • ½ cup of Cantaloupe to get the Vitamin C

    • Five ounces of Sunflower Seeds to get the Vitamin E

It’s difficult to get that kind of nutrition with even the healthiest diets… so this is a winner for our kids for sure!

POST #6 – Play Defense – Daily Outer Ear Massage

Healthy ears all winter long?!  YES. PLEASE.  I started doing this with our kids a few times a week several years ago and we haven’t had any issues with their ears ever since.  We enjoy the time together so much that it quickly became a part of our nighttime regimen almost every evening.  It’s also a great opportunity to snuggle with your kids and pray over them or just talk about their day!

  • 15 drops Melrose

  • 10 drops Lavender

  • 10 drops Lemon

  • 8 drops Basil

  • 4 drops Wintergreen

  • 35 drops ImmuPower

Add the essential oils to a two ounce dropper bottle and fill it to the top with V-6 or a fatty carrier oil of your choice.  Put several drops of the mixture onto your fingertips and massage it in a “V” shape AROUND the OUTSIDE of their ears.  Never put essential oils directly into the ear or ear canal.

POST #7 – Play Defense – Daily Spine & Foot Massage

A really smart and easy defensive play is to massage your kids’ feet and spines with oils every morning as they are getting dressed for the day and every evening as they are putting on their jammies.  Viruses live along the spine so applying powerful oils there shortens the time it takes for them to get where they need to go to do the work they are designed to do to keep us feeling our best.  Our pores are largest on our feet so they absorb oils quickly and effectively when applied there… and it is a great spot to put them on kids and then cover with socks so they cannot rub any oils into their eyes.

I like making serums to keep in their rooms so they are ready to go and easy to use when and where we need them!

  • 15 drops Thieves

  • 10 drops Frankincense

  • 10 drops Lemon

  • 6 drops Oregano

  • 35 drops ImmuPower

Add the essential oils to a two ounce dropper bottle and fill it to the top with V-6 or a fatty carrier oil of your choice.  Put several drops of the mixture onto your fingertips and massage it into the bottoms of their feet and along their spine as they are getting dressed in the morning and as they are getting their jammies on at night.

POST #8 – Play Defense – Must Make Sprays

Having some sprays on hand is another great way to stretch your oils and keep them ready to use so you use them more often.  Here are two we always have through the fall and winter months!

Add one capfull of the Thieves Household Cleaner to a two ounce misting bottle and fill to the top with water.  Spray onto hands and surfaces to clean and stay well. Be sure they have one of these in their backpacks and keep one in your purse and vehicle, too!

  • 15 drops Lavender

  • 15 drops Tea Tree

  • 10 drops Cedarwood

  • 1 T Witch Hazel

Add the essential oils and witch hazel to a two ounce misting bottle and fill to the top with water.  Spray onto hair and backpack before going to school and public places.

POST #9 – Play Offense – Wellness Diffuser Blends

A great way for the whole family to benefit from using essential oils is to keep them in your diffuser all fall and winter long.  We have one in every bedroom as well as a few in our living spaces.  Remember… essential oils are not fragrances.  They do so much more than make our homes smell nice.  They offer amazing health benefits and they actually clean the air by removing all the bad stuff and replacing it with all the good stuff that has cellular access and the ability to positively effect our emotions!

  • 4 drops Peace & Calming

  • 2 drops Cedarwood

  • 2 drops Lavender

  • 4 drops Lavender

  • 3 drops Frankincense

  • 4 drops RC or Raven

  • 3 drops Lavender

  • 2 drops Cedarwood

  • 4 drops RC or Raven

  • 2 drops Lemon

  • 2 drops Peppermint

  • 4 drops Thieves

  • 2 drops Copaiba

  • 2 drops Lemon

  • 4 drops Frankincense

  • 2 drops Lavender

  • 2 drops Bergamot

POST # 10 – Play Offense – Make the Most of Bath Time

The kids are getting baths a few times a week anyway, right?!  So let’s make the most of it with a few things that take no extra time!

  • Use our KidScents Shampoo and Bath Gel or our Seedlings 3 in 1 Wash for cleaning!  They are formulated for even the most sensitive skin and are thoughtfully designed with calming oils.  You can dilute them 1:1 with water to make one bottle last twice as long!

  • EPSOM SALTS.  Yup… in all caps.  Epsom salt baths are so easy yet so important for our kiddos!  The magnesium in the salts helps with growing muscles and they provide a gentle way to pull toxins out of their bodies.  Simply add ¼ to ½ cup of unscented Epsom salts to their warm bath and let them soak and play for 15 to 20 minutes.  Then, rinse them off with some clean water.  Feel free to add some oils like Lavender and Copaiba to the Epsom salts before adding them to the water if you’d like them to get some extra oils on their skin, too!

  • If your kids have dry skin… you have a few great options to help!  A mixture of ½ cup of coconut oil and 15 drops each of Lavender and Tea Tree is a DIY miracle worker.  Our KidScents Lotion is amazing if you are more of a DIBuy person and the Seedlings Diaper Rash Cream works great on all dry/red skin issues!

POST #11 - Empowerment for Habits of Wellness

At the end of the day, the goal with all of this is empowerment.

  • Empowerment for You

  • Empowerment for Them

The Young Living lifestyle is not about being told what to do like we are used to with doctors and prescription drugs. It is not an exact science… and all of these posts are just suggestions!

We believe you have the children you have for a reason… and that you received some amazing instincts and unique wisdom the moment they were born. No one else but you is equipped to raise the children you have to become strong, smart, kind, successful and happy adults.

So… follow your gut, moms and dads. Know what is in, on and around your family and educate yourself so you are confident in the choices you are making in regards to their diet and the products they are using. Keep the offensive and defensive plays available to you in mind and prioritize them according to what works for YOUR FAMILY. None of us are the same so we all require different things to thrive!

We want to encourage you to do the same for your children. Equip them with information that empowers them to continue to care about what they do and choose every single day. If they know that their choices affect their longevity (length of life) and vitality (quality of life) they will be excited to embrace things that help instead of harm.

You are equipped to love your children well and we hope that oils open your eyes to new opportunities to continue doing it with passion and excitement!
